Wonderful Wednesdays

Posted in Journal, Projects at 1:55 pm by Sarah

I think I’ll change the mood a bit to tell you about my favourite day in the week…

Wednesdays are very wonderful! While everyone else is grumbling about hump day at work… I know that when I get home I will have a whole evening in which to do whatever I have the whimsy to do!

This will usually include one or more of the following:

  • Eating something nice
  • Cooking a yummy treat (I have an obsession with finding the perfect cookie recipe at the moment).
  • Sewing something nice while watching my ‘programs’ (all on ABC of course!) ‘New Inventors’, ‘Spicks and Specks’, ‘The Chaser’s War on Everything’… and if I don’t need an early night ‘The Movie Show’.
  • Giving my husband a huge hug when he gets home.

Ah…. nothing could be lovelier than spoiling yourself silly one night a week :)

It really gets to me how Christians, as groups, can be so nasty and horrible to each other. Ok – so I know it’s not a new or localised problem… but when it’s close to my heart, it hurts alot.

Obviously I am not going into details. This is just my issue right now.

It just makes me so angry.. it’s like watching your own children fighting. You love them both dearly – but they are both acting like complete bumheads!

I get so sad that Christians can be so bitter towards one another without even saying a word to each other. Can’t they just sit down and try to come to an understanding in a godly way – instead of sitting on their angst, holding a grudge and creating even more bitterness and division??

The thing is, both parties have (or should have) the same goal – to glorify God. Each are doing it in their own way. Things are happening, people are coming to Christ, they are building each other up. So why do they, as groups, insist on trying to break each other down?

The depressing thing is that I don’t think this is the last time I will encounter this sort of stuff. My only hope is that I recognise this in myself, if and when it happens.

Rant over. I feel the tiniest bit better.

God on my side

Watched Andrew Denton’s ‘return’ documentary last night… .

Surprisingly, it wasn’t Denton’s aggressive interviewing style that was frustrating (in fact it was quite balanced and easy-going), rather it was the interviewees terrible literal theology and apologetics!

It was very interesting to examine the church in America though. I guess I hadn’t really understood it before. How and why they interpret the Bible literally, the media’s influence and how influential they are in American politics.

What confused me most was their fascination with Israel. Israel as ‘God’s Holy Place’ (still??) and as the catalyst of the apocalypse… weird stuff.

Anyways.. here’s a good review..

a tough week

Posted in Journal at 1:45 pm by Sarah

Well, in a nutshell, my body has been a bit hard on me this week…

A string of migranes, a weird hyperactivity that hits me at bedtime, red-eyed days, talking in my sleep! (As far as I know – that’s a first) .. among other things…

So I’m very very ready for a weekend at Pearl Beach to celebrate Nic’s b’day:). At this moment I’m looking out the window willing the rain to stop! Either way, Haoran is over the moon to be returning to his favourite holiday destination and I am happy for a change of scenery.

Saturday was designated ‘Lounge Swap Over’ Day.

I was pretty daunted by the fact the it had taken 3 guys to get the lounges into our house… and only me and Haoran were going to be getting them out again. These are big chunky old fashioned lounges that weigh alot! Anyway I surprised myself by managing it without too many injuries (1 x squashed finger).

So we set out for Cordeux Heights, my aunt’s new house, with me driving the borrowed ute coz I know manual :) . We only made one wrong turn on the way and made it through a very narrow road cutting through some jungle and arrived on time for lunch! Convieniently my uncle turned 50 and so was having a catered birthday bash – which we took full advantage of . We got a tour of the house and Haoran was particularly impressed by the built-in music room and got to jam in it later on.

We left our old borrowed lounges on their front verandah and left for Denham Court to pick up our shiney new ones. Well…. new for us. H’s parents were getting rid of them and since they are a much nicer compact size, and comfortabler, we claimed them for our little house.

We loaded the ute while it was still light and went back inside to sort out H’s old room. Now that H’s parents have moved they are trying to sort out the stuff they’ve left behind. So we sorted through the (billions of) Magic cards, the 20 years worth of birthday cards, old books of writing and primary school projects… so cute! It’s a bit hard to know what to throw out and what’s worth saving. But we were pretty ruthless.

I also picked up a few things around the house that they didn’t want. I find it so hard to say no to things - although I know that we have huge potential to be hoarders.  But I hope that I wasn’t too bad this time around. :S

Anyway, noo lounges were taken home and installed and pronounced perfect!

On Sunday Haoran was on workshop (I love workshop… did I mention that?). He had developed (what I think is) the best use of the system yet, where everything was nicely set out on ONE piece of paper (as opposed to previous weeks) and easy to interpret.

It gets me so excited to hear the comments and discussions that happen on workshop weeks. It also gets my brain going in all sorts of different directions.

hmmm..

And Many Moore…

Posted in Church/Ministry, Journal at 2:42 pm by Sarah

This week we have a whole bunch of Moore College students visiting QHAC doing mission work.

It great having them here and it sounds like they’re doing a mega good job. It does mean, however, that ministry in general goes into over-drive. The students are doing a fair bit in the campus and schools ministry.. and so Haoran is dedicating a whole lot of time to helping out with that.
