Next on the weekend camp list was Mission houseparty…. Read the rest of this entry »
For various complicated reasons, I am not able to park my car in the garage at the moment… which, of course, means I have to park on the street. Since we live in a complex.. we can’t actually see the street from our house, and I was a bit worried about something happening to the car. But Haoran reassured me saying that nothing had ever happened to his car – and he parks out there all the time.
Apparently my car invites trouble….
When we got back from the weekend away I discovered my side mirror sadly hanging by its wires. A huge boot print was pretty clear evidence someone had highkicked my side mirror! Fortunately H was able to click it back into place. No permanent damage done.
That’s not all.. yesterday I walked out to the car to find some weird orange goo all over the driver’s side door. It took me a while to figure out what it was…. then I spotted egg shells on the road. My car had been egged!! Who eggs poor innocent cars parked on the side of the road?
Either someone has some personal vendetta against me…. or white cars stand out as a more obvious target?? Or…. maybe my car comes to life at night and hangs out with street-car gangs that are up to no good…
I’m not sure what to think…
This place is amazing! They have so much random stuff…. Worth checking out just to read the amusing descriptions..
.. has to include spending a half an hour picking every single piece of cheese out of a caesar salad – because you like caesar salad that much.
Ho hum..
Had another overwhelming work-week this week. We had preparation for meetings, the meeting to prepare for the meeting, and of course: the meeting itself.
I have to take minutes among other things. Which sounds easy, but it means you have to continually concentrate on what’s going on. Which is hard when it’s a full day meeting.
At the end of the first day I was exhausted and emotionally tired… and went home early. A work dinner had been organised for that night and I spent the next few hours debating whether I should go. I would miss ‘Spicks and Specks’ plus I would have to spend the night with a bunch of rough and ready Parts Managers – who would, by the time I got there, already be on their 3rd or 4th beer.
I went, not really knowing why. It was as I expected. I felt completely out of place, and was, it turned out, the only girl in attendance.
I sat down next to one of the guys I work with, preparing to just eat, make polite small-talk, and get the heck out of there as soon as possible… He proceeded to tell me about how his brother-in-law had attempted suicide that morning. It wasn’t the first time. Our conversation drifted, and suddenly he was telling me how he and his wife had grown up in Christian households and how, due to lots of different things that had happened, they both had become jaded about ‘religion’.
As we talked, I could tell he knew the gospel, but he didn’t understand it. he told me how he struggled with the concept of grace, his thoughts on tolerance and open-mindedness with other religions, and how his family had broken up and divided over their beliefs. And I could understand, after his experiences, why he thought the way he did.
Why do I always get the ones who think they already know it all? Talking to people who have never heard the gospel before has to be easier than this!!
I hope I said the right things. I listened alot as well. I’m learning to do more of that. Before I knew it, it was time for me to go home.
It was encouraging to remember that God uses situations, even dumb work dinners, for his glory!

How much I wanted to go back in time to Thursday night and do it all again (after being in traffic for 2 hours this morning because they closed the M2 because a stupid car caught on fire)…? : soooooooooooo much.
The last two days have been really yukky. Work has been horrible, mainly because someone is away during a crucial preparation-for-new-vehicle-launch-and-photo-shoot-time and the only other person is new and doesn’t know the ropes yet. So, I’m trying to do that plus my normal job, which happens to be very busy at the beginning of the month. Plus I stubbed my toe the other night so badly that I couldn’t walk (it’s a totally funky shade of purple now). Plus I had a two-day headache ending in a blinding migrane last night.
I told you it was yukky..
But as my poor obliging husband rubbed my knot-ridden shoulders last night, I slipped into a deep healing sleep. And it was a brand new day this morning…. well, you know what I mean. Things are cruisy today… I’m not crazily running around trying to decide what is the most important thing I should doing right now. And I’m looking forward to a long weekend. A weekend filling with reading, and sleeping, and possibly a nice proper cooked breakfast…
Sleep is amazingly good stuff.
And although I can’t understand why the world leaders feel the need to meet in one city in this age of instant communication technology (Think.. conference call?) …… I’m so glad that they are.
I’ve never been very good at gardening. I am quite good at killing plants in fact… well so far anyway..
